What is the difference between coaching and psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy/Counseling

Psychotherapy (sometimes referred to as Counseling) is a form of “Talk Therapy” developed to help people understand themselves and their interaction with others. It can be helpful for reducing emotional pain and developing greater confidence and skill in their personal and professional relationships. It can also help to alleviate depression, anxiety, anger and chronic misuse of behaviors. With psychology services, the client is given a diagnosis and sometimes the client’s insurance company can be billed.

Coaching

Often one needs help with anger, communication, adjustments, stress or grieving and there is no medical condition or diagnosis code, but the client can often be helped by helping them understand their situation, their thoughts, their feelings, and interaction with others, Coaching helps clients achieve their goals to live a more fulfilled live.

I believe that a person should get the proper sleep, eat right, and exercise regularly to ensure the best mental health in addition to physical health.

I’ve been trained to help individuals achieve goals.  I read often to stay up-to-date on current methods to help people. I believe in an integrative approach with the focus on the client.
